New Miter Saw - How do I bevel it?

I just got the Hitachi 10" compounding miter saw.

It came from the factory locked in at 52 degree miter and I was able to get that back to 0 by removing a bolt. It was also shipped in a 45 degree bevel angle but I can't get it to loosen up.

There is a black handle on the back that was very tight so I removed the handle and used a 13mm wrench to turn the bolt it was connected to. It just turns and turns and nothing happens. It seems to be locked by something else.

Did you buy it from a vendor that didn't include a owner/ operator's manual?

It does include one, unfortunately there is no mention of a locking device. It says:

Before the power tool is shipped from the factory it is adjusted for 0 to 45 bevel cutting with an 8mm bolt.

When changing the adjustment change the height of the 8mm bolt by turning it.

So I did adjust that but still nothing.

it might have a shipping bolt in it or something else along those lines to keep it locked while packaged look it over more closely something might stand out at you

New Miter Saw - How do I bevel it?

I just couldn't figure it out and I was already disappointed by a few things with the saw so I decided to return it and get a different one.

I'm not going to name names but the difference in setup was night and day. I did research on both models and a few others before purchasing, the one I just bought was my 2nd choice because it was more expensive.

Very happy now.

if the saw is the newer model hitachi the quality has gone way down on them.. my first mitre saw was a 10" hitachi that i bought when i started out as an apprentice.. it worked fine but didnt have the cut capacity i needed as i started doing more and more crown molding...

but as stated a good portion of the new hitachi tools are junk... ive used a few of them and they dont perform nearly as well as the old stuff.

bosch, makita and milwaukee have the best saws on the market next to the festool kapex... dewalt makes saws with lots of features but severly lacks in power and long term accuracy

yes, it was a hitachi. and i have a dewalt now. im going to be using them lightly and these are the only two companies i wanted to buy from locally. I prefer Milwaukee for all my power tools but it was not available locally.

of course there is always craftsman, but no thanks.
