Nail gun - ring groove dimension?

I have just bought used gas (combusion) Paslode nail gun for +/-25 US$. There is actually no piston and ring inside the cylinder (only driver assembly). I was thinking how to make it usable and recalled, that I can use a lathe to make my own piston .

I have a basic concept of shape from drawings, but I could't find anything about ring dimensions. If any of You have a minute during cleaning to measure piston groove height/width (and ring thickness/height) of your whichever combustion nail gun, I would be very grateful.

I could even pay for this info, because it is relatively expensive and time consuming to get a piston in my country, because combustion nail guns are not popular .

dont mess around with this sorta thing. you can make a minor problem a major problem unless you do it exactly as paslode designed it to be.

spend the money and just buy the part

Robi. Welcome to the Forum. I checked your towns location on Google Map and see that you are about 25 miles west of Vienna.
I admire your enterprise as a DIY'er to make your own piston, but without a model I agree with Kirk in Post #2.

The problem is, that my model is Paslode IM325. It is discontinued, I could't find spare parts even during my trip to Hungary. I'm actually making a gas tank adapter for it, because it's hard to get those expensive mini tanks.

I'm doing it for my own risk. Like Tesla and Edison . It's a neverending battle between development and safety.

dont mess around with this sorta thing seriously, nail guns are extremely dangerous if you dont know what your doing.. especially when it comes to repairs

i have a paslode finish gun that broke down a couple years ago and i tried to fix it . what would have been a $25 turned into a rebuild that cost $72.

contact your local paslode dealer/ repair shop and confirm with them that the part isnt available. with some nail guns the older model's part has a different number on it but its still the same part in the newer guns but with a new number. the other thing you can do is speak to the manager. ask him to keep your number on file if a contractor brings the same gun in on trade. most of these shops will accept older guns on trade in for credit towards new ones. if one comes in you can just take the part off that gun and install it on yours. or do the smart thing and stop fighting with a broken tool and just buy a new one
