Looking for a Miter Saw, What would you buy?

Alright, so My Name is Mike, and yes, I am a tool junkie. I have a problem and I'll admit it.

I am looking at Miter Saws.

I was thinking about getting a 10 Inch Sliding. What is the difference between the dual slide, and the single bevel?

99% of my work right now is just going to be remodel. Choping up 2x4's and what not.

Should I just get a cheap 200 chop saw or save myself some money down the road and get a sliding one?

I would like to get a decent brand. Dewalt, Milwaukee, Ridgid, Makita. (what else is good these days)

Thanks!

The type of saw depends on what you want to spend. I have used everything from a Harbor Freight brand, up the the Festool. Prices ran from $100 to $1300. The stand is nice if you have the saw on multiple sites, It gives you a quick easy way to set up and transport. If it is just sitting at one job for weeks at a time, you can probably do without it. We currently have Milwaukee 12 in sliding, Dewalt 12 in sliding, and Bosch 10 in sliding. I have had the Bosch for about 12 years and it seems indestructible. The other two are newer so I can't vouch for their durability yet. I also have 2 of the Ridgid stands and they work very well. I have heard that for $99, the Ryobi stand is decent too.

You have to evaluate, or rather look into the crystal ball and see what you will be doing down the road. My first saw was a 10" Skill miter / chop saw. And I wish I would have bought my current saw years ago. I ended up buying a Milwaukee 12" slider and a Porter Cable collaspable stand.

The stand I would say is a must, it allows easier storage when not in use, and the 12" allows for larger cross sectional cuts, a must when doing crown moulding.

If you buy a 10", one day you'll want to cross cut something that's just a little too wide. I would go with the 12". If you buy a slider, get a decent one. I like dewalt's 12" slider.

Is moving it around a consideration? Size and weight are then perhaps paramount factors.

Hey Guys,

Well my dad said I can use his old crapsman chop saw until I figure what I need. I tried out a makita 12 inch slider. It was very nice.
