How to change a saw blade?

I'm trying to change the blade on my chop saw and can't get the bolt to loosen up. I have the allan wrench stuck into the end of the motor to hold the blade still, but can't turn the bolt next to the blade.

Which way do I turn the wrench that's on the bolt - left to loosen it, like a jar lid or right to loosen it?

Also, is there a special kind of allan wrench to use? I can't seem to get a good enough grip on this one to hold it still.

Sorry for the dumb questions, but this is frustrating me to no end.

Barb

How to change a saw blade?

How about a make and model #, Web site, something so we can at least see what saw you have.
Is there not a button on the back of the guard around the motor that can be pushed in to lock the shaft to keep it from turning?
Most are left hand thread.

How to change a saw blade?

Found this on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZkZniNQmb0

I have a Sears model, and it has the blade locking mechanism he talks about. Note that on this Youtube he talks about how it is reversed thread, so turn the bolt RIGHT to LOOSEN (my chop saw is the same). Obviously, your mileage may vary.

HTH!

How to change a saw blade?

Thanks you guys and thanks for taking the time to look for the video on YouTube dougp23.

I got it changed. Like in the video, the bolt had to be turned clockwise to loosen it.
