Just a guess.
It iron workers thongs for holding rivits. My guess would be the hole is where they would have a strap connected to there belt so if it was dropped it would not fall. If you go on Ebay and key word search black smith or iron workers thongs it may come up with a propper name. I could not get the pictures to come up for some reason on my computer tonight. |

I bet that would get a bulls attention.
I'd guess the hook is to lead them if they had a ring already in there nose. |
Awesome! Thanks, these are my grandfathers and he and my grandmother recently had to move to an assisted living place. Been going through some of his stuff sorting it out. Years ago he had a farm, so it makes perfect sense that that is what it is.

No the hook is to hold the rope tight. The rope ties into the hole then goes through the other hole then loops back over the hook, that keeps constant pressure on the bulls noise.

You've never had so much fun as to when someone holds you while someone else attaches one of these to the loose skin on your side, then pulls the rope tight. You WILL do anything they tell you to do. Yes, it leaves a big blue/yellow whelt on your side. But that's what farm boys do for fun. OH---the tool is a "bull-nose tong" for leading bulls around.
