DeWalt Air Compressor Puzzle

I recently purchased a used DeWalt air compressor model# D55146 Type 4. Right away I knew it needed new gauges and couplers. I replaced these and also installed a new regulator repair kit. Initially I tried to reduce the outgoing pressure but was unable to change it from 150#. So after installing the repair kit I had the same situation.

I called DeWalt's technical service department and was told that I need a new Manifold set which includes gauges, couplers, regulator and the manifold. The price about $135.00! The other components for the regulator are not available unless the manifold is purchased.

Anyone have suggestions? By the way DeWalt's customer service technicians are quite inept. I called them 3 times hoping I would get a legitimate hands-on technician but what I really got was a desk clerk that put me on hold so they could refer to their "frequently asked questions" section.

Hoping for an answer,

Jim

Any reason you can not just snap on a regulator to the female coupler?

I was wondering if this might be available. Perhaps I can find something at Harbor Freight. Thanks Joecaption.

The primary reason for the compressor is for my nail guns - I am afraid it might blow some of their inards out. What do you think?

When we know right away a product isn't worth a dam we should take it back and hope our second or third selection of a foreign product may be acceptable.

Even homer depot has the pressure regulators for around $20, just screw a female plug in one side and a male plug in the other and you are good to go.

i have the same compressor, great compressor, have been using it for 20 + years. only thing that happened was a gauge went bad. this place ive ordered form before. you can take it apart to see if something is stuck inside, doesnt seem like you have anything to loose. as i remember they sold new for over $300.00. just read your post again, you installed a repair kit, well then something is wrong. maybe the spring is on the wrong side or something is messed up. you should be able to fix it, by the way, where did you find a repair kit for one of these.

Thanks for the comments. I did find the kit at Toolpartspro but later found the same part at another site which was about $2 to $3 cheaper. I am very sure I installed it correctly but when I removed the old kit the diaphragm gasket was out of place - cocked sideways. Perhaps the new one has slipped sideways also.
