can air compressor do that?

First let me introduce myself.
I'm a small independent film maker in Maryland and I think I'm going to use some form of compressed air for a special effect and I thought that somebody on this forum could help me.

I need to know if an air compressor can deliver burst of air and not just constant flow!
More precisely, I need to simulate the exit wound created by a bullet coming out of the back of a head. Can a compressor blow out a piece of wig by delivering a quick burst of air?

Would it be better to use a CO2 cartridge? What tool use those cartridges?
Thanks
Phil

So how do I deliver a burst of air with a compressor? Does it have something to do with the handle regulating the air?
Why do you think CO2 cartridges are not safe?

I would think a tire bead seater like this would be perfect for what you want

They are specially designed to dump the contacts of the tank REAL QUICK. Also, when I watch Mythbusters they have used similar devices - a series of air tanks controlled by one big dump valve to power their air cannons, etc

if you already have or have access to a compressor, all you'd need is this from any compressor accessory kit, a length of flexy soft tubing to tape on back of head. lots of blood and a short burst is all you want, yes? the drawback to CO2 is the packaging allows a few tries, where as a compressor allows unlimited, and the CO2 may or may not have an attachment to do what you need, and trying to 'rig it up' yourself may lead to disasterous results.
