Campbell Hausfeld compressor problem

Hi to all,
Done a google search and found this forum. Looks like a very interesting site.
My problem is I went out into my toolshed today to use my air compressor to blow out a few filters for my swifter vac.
I have a Campbell Hausfelf HL550100 max 125 psi compressor. It worked fine up until now. I noticed the air was all leaked out of it because the gauges were at 0.
I flicked the lever and it kicked in but noticed air was leaking from around the air flow adjuster valve when it got up to around 60 psi. I let it build up pressure until it was around 100 psi and then hit the lever to stop. The air continued to leak until i turned the control adjuster valve clockwise a bit to stop the air leak. I then turned the lever again and it built up pressure to about 120 psi but the cutout gauge seemed to be still trying to reach the cut out limit. each time i turn off the air escapes rapidly around the control valve.
It is possible that the control adjuster valve is faulty or maybe got moisture that formed ice causing this problem?
Before I could always adjust the control adjuster valve to 70psi to use my nail gun and then adjust back to 100 for normal operations.

Greatly appreciate any ideas on what I have to do.
Cheers
