Bought tools today, good or bad deal?
well, today I went out and purchased a set of power tools, one of the combination sets that are so popular everywhere. I'm glad I read the Makita from China thread, because I was going to buy a 5 piece Bosch set, and I went to the local Menard's with this in mind. As I was looking at the tools on display, I figured I'd check the place of manufacture...
the Brute-tough hammer-drill says right on the unit, "made in switzerland", hmmm, I thought Bosch was a German brand, but the Swiss are a reliable folk, sweet. Wait a minute, checked all the other tools in the combo kit, and they didn't say anywhere on them where they were made. I checked the box, and it said: Hammer-drill made in Switzerland, recip saw, China; circular saw, China; flashlight, China.
Didn't buy the Bosch.
Checked out the Porter Cable set, and the box said: "Tools made in Mexico, Taiwan, China, accessories made in the USA of US parts"
Didn't buy the PC either.
Finally saw the set of Makita, checked each tool, each said manufactured in the USA, with the circ saw blade and flashlight made in Japan. Bought the Makita.
Anyways, paid $440 for the 18V set, called the 1840DL, or something like that. Not Li-ion, but I'm not a huge DIY guy right now. I guess I'm just looking for some positive words on my purchase, or a "You got hosed, buddy" from some of the more experienced on the board.

Just let us know your evaluations...
...and Run those suckers hard.....
Good deal for the combo
I've always liked my Makita tools (none are Chinese)
Well balanced, easy to handle, put up with abuse
Never had any Makita saws though
Yeah, let us know how everything works out
Makita is like Lexus in cars.... luxuriy/expensive/reliable tool.... I have 2 tool made of Makita... one is the drywall screwgun, one is the cordless wet tile saw...
the screwgun is no agrument a extremely good tool... I like it much more than the dewalt in term of style, performance..etc... even though my dewalt one is faulty... but I can comment on the style...
I am yet to try the cordless wet tile saw....
