I'm looking at buying a new router. The 3 1/4 HP Bosch 1619 EVS for a table use 99% of the time. Any thoughts on this or something else?
I like Bosch's handheld routers, but...
For table use, the porter cable speedmatic is absolutely the best you can buy. They've been around forever, and haven't changed much because they're perfect. You can buy it with a fixed or plunge base, or as the motor alone for use with a lift. The lift is really the best way to go if you ask me. Be sure with a router this heavy you get an aluminum plate, not phenolic. Phenolic will sag over time with a router this heavy. I really recommend the milled aluminum plates from Woodpeckers...There's none better. Their lifts are also the best I've seen. www.woodpeck.com
The Bosch Router is a great Power Tool. The other Power Tool manufacturers such as Porter-Cable, Makita, Milwaukee, Hitachi, and Festool will also do an excellent job. Just make sure that you buy a variable speed Power Tool that you can slow down to at least 10,000 RPM's so you can use larger bits like panel cutters.
And for Router tables, I would recommend Bench Dog, WoodHaven, and Jessem. You will be happy with any other these brands.
