Wood fireplace insert temperature

I have just purchased a Jotul C350 fireplace insert.

They gave me a temperature thermometer, which was placed just above the door. They told to break in the insert at certain temperature- 200, 300 and 400 degrees. I am having trouble getting it above 200.

I am for the most part burring maple. Outside temperature is between 10- 20 degrees.

Any suggestions?

Try burning oak. I would also check to see if the thermometer is working correctly.

we burn maple, oak, cherry, walnut, etc.... hickory burns REAL nice and hot ...
but, whatever you're burning, as long as it's dry, you should be getting better than that.
is it in the right spot? as per instructions?
have you tried emailing Jotul?
