Window Spiral Repair

Hello,

This is my first time here and I was wondering if I could get some help. I had a house build a couple of years ago. This house has Aluminum double-paned windows (non-tilt). Today I was trying to open one of the windows and as I was pulling it up, I heard a loud pop. Thinking I had broken the window, I took a closer look. It looks like the window spiral (?) has come out of the tube (not sure what the technical term is). Does anyone know how easy it is to repair this, as my window will no longer stay up. I have pictures posted at

so you can see exactly what I am talking about. I know there is a special tool I have to buy to repair this, but am not sure about it's use? Does anyone have any experience with repairing these?

Window Spiral Repair

These spirals are wound up to a certain tension and attached to the window bottom. I would first compare the unwound one to the one that's still attached to the window to see if a part broke off. If they look the same, see if you can rewind the loose spiral. If you can, you should be able to reuse the one you have. If not, you'll need a new part.

Window Spiral Repair

There was another post in this site about this same problem, recently. Someone gave a well written description as to how these work and how to identify them by the color of a plastic piece in them. Do a search for this and see if you can find it. Good Luck, David
