window replacement question
don't know which sub-category this fits - so I'll start here.

finishing a year long basement gut/remodel and last to go will be 4 single pane hopper windows. have had a couple people look at the windows - this is the one job I'm not touching - it's getting colder and just want it done

one company claims they will install a vinyl window from the inside - without removing existing aluminum frame and this doesn't quite seem right to me so I wanted some advice from anyone who may have a bit more experience
thanks in advance

you can do it that way, would depend on what you want and how the old unit is burried in the masonary,i like to see total removal if possible

post some pics if you can

here is what I did last fall - I cleaned it all and made it look better/finished
you're asking - why didn't you replace the windows then? it wasn't in the budget at the time...

It's possible to use the old metal frame as a "stop" for the new window if need be. The issue would be the sill area. The new window will have drain holes for water to get out. These need to be open, so the old sill frame would need to be removed or modified to keep the drains open.
