Whole house fan in wall?

Anyone have any experience on whole house fan installations in an exterior wall? I have a 3 story house with a flat roof, no attic. I have a back room on the 3rd floor that is a kind of 4 seasons room and not climate controlled but I am considering putting a fan in the back wall which lines up with the door and steps to the lower floors.

I'm not really worried about framing the RO but can I use the basic house fans I see for sale for attic use? And what about keeping the elements out on the outside? Would louvers work that well against driving rain? Or perhaps an awning of some sort.

Make sure the motor bearings are designed for this type of mounting, with the shaft horizontal.
