White stains in the attic.......old bees nests or termites? (pics)

I stuck my head into the attic to see what the insulation situation was like. I noticed some white stains (circles) in random places. Although I thought termites, I didn't see any trails or wood damage. I did notice one old (dead) bees next by the chimney. That got me thinking maybe the PO's had a problem and called someone in.

Roof is less than a year old...no leaks that I know off.

From what i see in your photos is that you have no vents in your attic.

Vents are for suckers :drink:

The attic has a "T" configuration, and at every dead end, there is a vertical vent (through the siding). They're not huge, but it is vents and I don't want to put holes in the brand new roof.

After I posted, I started looking at temp. controlled attic fans. I was hoping I could attach one to one of the vents.

How old is your place?

Old

The PO's parents bought the place in the 50's, but it was probably already there a bit before that?

Just got finished talking to the windows guy. He dated some of the original casements as original Marvin (or was it Andersons?) from the 50's.

I was up in my attic last week and found a small bee nest, only 2-3in wide. It was empty and when I pulled it off it left a white colored mark behind, so from my experience I'd say it could definitely be from nests.

Between bees or termites, I'll take the bees
