Call the police....that is if you are sure the evil neighbour is the culprit, otherwise you will be stirring up a mess of nasty for yourself

I can tell you that it isn't hydrochloric (muriatic), sulfuric or phosphoric. All of those can't be powdered and they are the big strong ones.

The only powdered acids I can think of aren't terribly strong in comparison. Citric acid is one that is easy to get.

Are you sure it is acid? You'll know for sure if when wet, you can foam it with baking soda (do at your own risk). Other powderable materials can possibly ruin a roof.

How do you know it's him or if it's even acid and not tree pollen?
Roll roofing is a very short lived product.

I have used dry muratic acid before.

Muriatic acid is diluted hydrochloric acid (diluted in water), so by definition, you cant have dehydrated muriatic acid :P Ignoring semantics, you can't practically turn hydrochloric acid into a powder by dehydrating it. Theoretically, it would be insanely acidic (pH<0). I believe before you actually dehydrate it, you would generate chlorine gas.

Another 1 post wonder.......

Even if it was 'powdered acid', I would be inclinded to think the water would wash away the acid......

I think a tin hat would help a lot in this case.

Well I use to add it to an institutional hot tub by the teaspoon to lower the pH. We bought it from a commercial pool supply house and it came in waxed paper cartons like milk used to come in. This was in the '90s and I realize some of the laws of physics may have changed since then and acid can no longer be made this way.

The 90's is the left over child of the 80s....and with what came out of the 80's I don't doubt that! :-D

That said, it looks like Sodium Bisulfate is the powder you might have used....which is pixie dust in a bottle.

Ahhh The evil roof disolving neighbor. Whenever he comes near, I put on my tin foil hat so he can't read my brainwaves.

Yeah, that's the stuff. I understand it will dissolve roll roofing like salt melts slugs.
