What size and type of nails to use

I am building a 8' X 36' pulpit platform for a church and I am using 2 x 8's. What size and type of nails should I use for this? Also what size and type of plywood should I use and what size and type of nails should I use for this?

Should I use wood glue also, what is the reason for glue? I don't want the pulpit to squeak when someone walks accross it. That would be so embarassing for me. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!!

Truthfully, I would go ahead and use 3" "roberts head" screws for the few extra bucks it will cost. And "yes" run a substantial bead of construction adhesive (liquid nails in a big caulking tube) on top of all your joists.

Use 3/4" tongue and groove plywood. The T&G will eliminate any chance of misaligned sheet edges. I would even use screws on the plywood... no shorter than 1-1/2".

Also spring for sound-deadening insulation underneath. You do NOT want the stage "booming" when someone walks across it. And if yours is a contemporary church with musicians, their instruments will reverberate inside a hollow stage.
