What a great surprise!

Hi all! I have been here a couple weeks doing my latest project on the log house. The house is 2 story with full shed dormer on the 2nd floor. I just set the 2nd story windows and put a 5-V galvalume roof on the back porch that is a simple shed roof off the back because I wanted a place to hear the rain. Well, after lots of help from you guys, I got finished with the roof just as the first drops of rain from tropical storm Lee hit the roof here in Ky. The house is situated in a clearing in the woods with tall trees all around, maples and poplars, oaks, etc. I sat down in the chair on the back-porch to listen to the rain on the metal roof, oh wow! love it! Then I decided to go upstairs and make sure I had closed all the new windows, half-way up the stairs I heard it, and I realized oh boy! you can hear the rain as it hits the top of the metal roof as well, and upstairs is where the 3 bedrooms are. I walked thru, grinning and looking out the new 2nd story windows at the treetops all around and realized that hearing the rain on the roof from up there as well as seeing all the treetops is like living in a treehouse. Oh wow! I have built a treehouse paradise. I hadn't thought about getting this added benefit. Sure makes all that hard work worth it. I may never come down.

Your place does sound like a paradise, I can hear the rain on your roof now, it brings back many good memories. Ya got any pictures?

Hope ya'll don't get all the rain we just got down here. We went from the driest month in history to the most rain fall in on day ever here, over 9 inches and still at it.

Well... If you wanted to be able to hear the rain, a metal roof will definitely make that dream come true!

Congrats, it sounds like you have a fantastic cabin in a beautiful place!

I will try to send you guys pics as soon as possible. We are getting lots of rain, it's been steady since late Sunday afternoon. I am so glad I did this now, I will like it even better as soon as I am not so darn sore.

Feels great, doesn't it? My wife and I built our log home by ourselves. We are living in it, with only some paint, trim, and flooring left to do. We subbed out the foundation, standing seam roof, and HVAC, but did virtually all the rest ourselves. Lived on the property in our 29-ft RV for two years while doing the work.

Yeah, I'm almost there now, I can't wait! We have pretty much done the work ourselves as well with the exception of a few contractors which we watched very closely. Congrats on yours, its beautiful in WV, just across the mountain from here. If you're down to just a little trim, hats off to ya!
