It looks like it might be a graduated beam compass set.

Are there different sets of dimension markings on each of the beams (rods)? Like rulers?

I haven't seen a set like that in a long time. It's called a beam compass. It's for making large arcs and circles. My first employer kept a good set in the drafting room, and another set out in the shop for scribing arcs and circles on material.

no there are no markings on the beams but there are 3 beams that connect together to make a pole abot 30" or so long. There are 2 or 3 adjustable pieces that slide up and down the beams though.

Dang, Aggie,

I thought I was about the only one old enough around here to remember those things.

True, Trammel Arms and Beam Compassses are about the same things.

That was a beauty. I don't suppose you have another one going for $20?
I make my own using wood for the beam sections. You can get the points for the ends from a variety of suppliers, Lee Valley being one. And they don't mind charging I can tell you!

Sorry Willie T and others, there are some more of us "old timers" out here. Yes, I recognized it as we had one when I took drafting in high school. I'm sure it was the teachers as he had been a draftsman for some large industry up north before moving south to teach. Later in Tech School Drafting classes I don't recall even discussing one. $20 bucks huh? Your property, you're business, but I say it was worth even more. Thanks, David
