What discount compels folks to buy when attending woodworking shows?

You know the setup- you’re walking by the bandsaw booth, and you really don’t need any more bandsaw blades or gizmos, but there it is- a circle cutting attachment, regularly $49.95, with a big sign “Show Special $25!” At what point do you give in and buy the thing (category ‘nice to have, but wouldn’t use it much…well, maybe at that price’).

I’m wondering how much stuff to lug to a show this winter, may have to fly, so freight costs are a factor.

That's a tough one---Everyone likes a "SHOW SPECIAL' but you make such a variety of products that singling out one item for a special might offend someone wanting the one that's not on sale.

(this man makes covers for equipment and cargo and is an active member at Woodworking Talk )

Is this your first show? Any track records from previous shows? Any friends been vendors at the show?

What discount compels folks to buy when attending woodworking shows?

...this past March- a farm mechanization show in eastern Canada. I have two main areas of products: first, the woodworking side (pouches for plywood and other sheet goods, long narrow ones for baseboard trim, and covers for portable tablesaws and sliding compound miter saws). The other is the farm equipment side (covers for planters, balers, etc. as well as a cover for a pallet of bagged seed, feed, etc,).
I offered the pallet covers at about 20% off, and sold some of those. Most of the other covers for farm stuff are custom sizes, so it would be hard to make inventory to take to a show.
I was thinking of plywood pouches and saw covers to take to a woodworking show.

I need to think on this---What are the most popular wood tool covers?

Would it be possible to put up a special like 'Buy an two covers and get a planer cover for free?'

Or some other small simple to make cover.

I never thought about machinery covers---so I'm just thinking out loud here.
Dust is the only thing that covers my shop tools.---Mike---

...is the best-selling wood product I have at the moment. The saw covers are fairly new. I've gotten two lines of thinking on what I do- one says to concentrate on making only a few different covers ('try to be everything to everyone and you end up being nothing to anyone'), or make mostly custom covers as there is no large demand for any one type.
That's why I've branched out a bit more; recently I've had some requests for covers for ride-on lawn mowers, for those people that don't have ready access to a shed or garage, as well as very different things (e.g., a cover for a two seater [side by side] bicycle with a canopy).
Your idea is good though, maybe 'buy a plywood pouch' and I'll throw in a saw cover?
What about the idea of buy the pouch at the show, send me your saw measurements and I'll ship it for free?

That idea sound promising---you know the size of a plywood pouch--but table saws vary a lot--

Mine sleeps 6 comfortably, 7 foot wide and almost 8 foot across

I like that---could be a super discount on a third or fourth item--if shipped at the same time.

Some of the wood workers a a bit nutty about their equipment.
I think there is a market--but how large is the question---
