What Code Issues Are There In This Plan

What are some issues regarding codes today would need to be changed in this house plan to make it fit modern codes and standards?

You need to do a bit better job explaining EXACTLY what you are looking for. Code review of plans typically requires the plans, not a magazine article or whatever the link is. Code review is typically performed by licensed professionals familiar with local codes in your area. Code review typically costs money, because the people who do it for a living need to eat too.

Also your location will have something to do with it.
CA may require shear walls, where in my area no one's even heard of them.
FL has all kinds of codes on windows doors and roofs, that other states do not have to follow.

Here are a few---and only because I have worked on houses of that time period.

The house is balloon framed--bad in today's code.

Roof rafters are to light---modern code calls for 2x12 s for insulation purposes above a living space.

Stairway opening to small -----stairs to steep.

If you like the basic design--take those to an architect/draftsman/home designer and have the redrawn to today's code.
