What brand of windows?

We are changing the bedroom windows soon. My cousin is a door/window installer. I had always thought Andersen was the best and Pella was right behind them. My cousin claims Andersen is overrated and Pella is the best, but overpriced. Most of his work is blue collar, inner city homeowners and he says they hardly ever go for Pellas. He says there are other brands comparable in quality to the Pellas but much lower in price. I have a meeting with him on Tuesday. I'm just wondering what are your opinions on this and do you have a brand that has given you many years of reliability. Our current 19 year old builder grade aluminum frame windows are shot. Almost all the seals are broken and they are all filled with condensation and stains. They have been getting worse for the last 5 years.

Consider Marvin windows also.

I have used the clad Pellas in the past and had good results. They finish nice if your staining on the inside. The nail fins are a little hokey but they work. I'm in the process of doing mine and using the 450 series casements but may use some of the Impervia fiberglass units.

Let me know what you decide and how they work out

I love Pellas and I love installing them over other brands. But, you will pay alot more for them. Example: I just finished pricing out a small remodel that we are scheduled to do. The difference in using comparable Pellas and using Andersons was over $6000.00

Aside from that, there are many good window manufacturers out there.

Thank you guys. I was checking out the Marvin web site after I posted that last night and they had some nice designs, but I had never heard of them before that.

Atlantic, thats just the kind of info I was lookin for. Looks like I got some reading to do!

For what it's worth, we have Anderson windows in our 14 year old house (we moved in last summer). The panes were collapsing on many of them, rendering them useless for thermal purposes.

I called Anderson, and they sent someone out the next week. It was a known defect, and he repaired about 20 of our windows, and ordered replacement sashes for 2 others. Very easy warranty coverage. I was quite pleased.

Whatever company you choose, I'd weigh their warranty heavily.
