Weiser smart Key Doorknob

When we bought our house one of the door knobs is a Weiser smart key type, but they had no keys for it. How the heck do you get it off the door. If I understand right I need the key to do it? I don't have the key.

There are no screws on the inner cover plate as with the older Weiser knobs. And I do not see any indents to push like Schlage or some of the cheapo ones.

And to think I used to re-key weiser locks, almost 20 years ago.

Any chance of a picture?
Look for a tiny hole or slot behind the knob.

It is the newer kind with the little hole on the outside for re-keying, beside where the key goes. it

cover should pop off and the screws are behing it. Remove the lock and take it to one of the Big Box stores and they have what is called a "Reset cradle" they will rekey it for you for free.

The inside cover does pop off, the knob stops it from coming off. Other knobs have a tab or spring type thing you push on to remove the inner knob, can not find anything like that on this knob. It is a Weiser smart key. The kind with the little hole beside where the key goes in.

Ok now you have me wanting to go take mine apart to answer this question, however,I think OP should call tech support,I found them to be helpful and easy to deal with.
I put 5 of these in my house and keyed them all except the last one.
After a call to tech support, I found out about the reset cradle.
I'll get back to you on this one as I will look at mine later.

The way I read this, you need a working key and a "smartkey reset tool" to just rekey. If you haven't got a working key, you will need the reset tool plus a reset cradle which, if I'm interpreting correctly, they will only sell to licensed locksmiths and the like.

Yep you got it, talked to the limber yard. To re-key you need original key and it is easy, with out key you need to go to locksmith.
I used to do insurance work and we re-keyed weiser all the time.

To remove this one you gently pry off the ring on the inside, then there is a disc. with a little notched tab, you need to lift this and turn it (a flat screwdriver works) Once you get all the notches lined up the whole knob and all comes off.

Why would you want to buy a reset cradle or pay a locksmith for doing it?
As I stated above, take the lock to the Big-Box store and they will do it for free.
This is a really simple problem to fix.

Were are you?
Paying someone to reset this will cost more than the lock itself.

Nearest big box is 4 hours away, It is cheaper to get a new knob, Nearest locksmith is 1 hour away. (I think)
Yep new knob it is. Like I said I used to re-key weiser locks all the time. Most small lumber yards even had the kit. These new ones are different.
