Got a sump pump running every 30 mins due to high water table in area. Fixed the rain water problem with french drains around the house, new eavestrophes and landscaped.
No more water in the basement and installing carpet this weekend.

So with the water problem mostly solved would you seal the basement floor just to protect the carpet or just let it be?

To see if you have moisture in the slab, tape down plastic on the concrete. An area of 1 sq ft will do. Tape the perimeter so the plastic is sealed. Wait a few days and see if you get condensation under the plastic. I'd do this in a few places on the floor.
I don't know if sealing the floor will keep the moisture from penetrating into the carpet. Or if it does, for how long.
I'm a fan of ceramic tile in the basement with area rugs.
