Water filtration system?
 

Hi;
I have been using a Brita pitcher filtration system for many years, and compared to tap water, it really does make the water taste a lot better.
Now that the Brita is worn out, I am in need of a new system, and was thinking of an under-the-sink instead of a pitcher.

My first question is whether an under-the-sink system is really less expensive to use. According to a chart I found online, it certainly is, but that seems to depend on where you buy replacement filters.
I have been buying the Brita pitcher filters at Costco, or BJ's for about $5 each.

Question 2. If I go with under the sink, will I get filtered water faster than it takes to drip down through the Brita?
I would assume that since the water is under pressure from the supply, it would move through the filter faster than a gravity feed system.

Question 3: Should I go with a 2 stage or just single stage filter?
My assumption is that two stages will take out more impurities than a single stage will, but it will also slow down the filtration process.

So, if there are any of you who have various types of water filtering systems, I would like to hear from you.

I put in an undersink filter about 3 months ago and it made a huge difference. My girlfriend would only drink bottled water but now she will drink water from the sink. I got it from lowes for around 60 bucks. It just has one filter and the water flows as fast as it did before I put the filter on.

So yours just goes in-line with the cold supply? The ones I have been looking at tap into the supply, but have their own faucet, so you don't waste filtered water for dishes, etc.

What brand did you get?

Yes mine is inline with the cold water. I believe it is a filtrete system, I'm not at home right now and the Lowes website doesn't show the one I got. I didn't know how well it was going to work and didn't want to spend the extra money and drill a new hole in my sink to mount a new faucet and then have it not work. Now that I now how well it works I probably would have gone with a dedicated faucet for the filtered water just to keep the lines after the filter clean and not use filtered water for dishes.

I am going to use the sprayer hole in the sink for the filter faucet.
Currently, there is a soap dispenser in that hole, but only because the new Delta faucet came with it. The faucet is a pull-out, so no need for a separate spray head.
