I need anyone who is an expert in drainage. I just had a contractor put a french drain around my vinyl liner pool. He tied in two of my gutter lines and they are tied in with solid corrugated pipe that connect to the top end of both sides of my pool (20x40). He trenched about 3' deep on shallow end. He filled trench with 57 stone, slotted drain pipe, stone, and fabric. It was then was backfilled 14" of clay soil. We got about 5 inches of rain in 24hrs and my pool was floating the next day. I callled the contractor and he said he was 1000 percent sure he did the job correctly. I think the gutters should have never been tied in and he should of only backfilled with about 4" of soil. I have a very high pitch on roof and both those gutters catch at least 80% of rainfall. I live in the east with very compacted clay soil. Advise please.
Can you please explain exactly why this project was undertaken. You state that the french drain was placed around the pool, was this to correct some perceived problem with the pool, or was it simply because it seemed that the pool area was the best place to drain the water to? Some photos would be very helpful in understanding the purpose of this project.
You note that you do not believe the gutters should have been tied in to the drain, presumably this was discussed with the contractor before he performed the work, please explain what you believe should have been done with the gutter drainage. If you did not intend to drain the gutters into the drain, what water was the drain supposed to collect?
