Ventless oil fireplace?

I was flipping through stuff on Hulu last night, and came across an episode of Mancaves. They installed an "oil burning" fireplace in the basement, which was ventless. They said it had no smell and was non-toxic. This install was in California - where I'm pretty-sure does ventless gas fireplaces are not allowed. So, out of curiosity I went looking for info on oil burning units. I'm striking out on Google.

Does anyone know more about these - or where I can find more about these? It seemed to be more of an "ambiance" fireplace than a heat source, but I'm still curious about it.
