I got a vanity for a gift last Christmas but haven't gotten around to tackling the bathroom remodel till now. I had never changed a vanity light so when I opened the box back then everything seemed fine. But now I'm doing a little research and realize I don't have any of the mounting hardware to go with it and it's pretty heavy. It's a Hampton Bay model 394 576.
Here (I've attached pic too)
I'm sure I don't have receipts or anything to return it so I'm going to make it work. It looks like it should have maybe a bracket that screws to an electrical box and probably an inside plate that attaches to the bracket and holds up the light. (Not to mention screws and the decorative bolts that will be seen on the outside.)
I'm planning on tearing out some drywall but was wondering if anyone had suggestions. My current plan is to mount a 2x4 flat against the inside of the wall (side away from the bathroom towards hall) from stud to stud and then screw my box to that and then screw the fixture through the box into the 2x4. I'm not crazy about this idea but it seems pretty heavy. This also means I'm going to see the screws and will have to silicone a decorative cap over them or something.
