Two-part epoxy or patch kit for shower surround repair (pictures included)?

For several months now I have noticed a couple places in our shower surround and I'm not sure what the best plan of action is.

I have some epoxy I could mix, apply and sand but it will not match in color. I have searched and found some DIY repair kits for shower and bath surrounds.

I would prefer to use something I already have vs buying something else unless I have to. Would the epoxy be OK to use or should I go ahead and buy a repair kit. Pic included below.

Now back up and take another picture.
You can patch until the cows come home, but trying to get it so it does not show and just crack again is a whole differant story.
A whole new surround is about $300.00 for a really good one. Cheaper then all the damage a leak can do.

So are you saying it can't be patched so it doesn't leak? I'm not too concerned about how it looks. I just don't want it to leak and do damage.

If your not concerned with looks then go buy a fiberglass patch kit.
It will include a small piece of fiberglass mat, two part epoxy, stirring stick.

See if you can get a kit with fiberglass cloth instead of matt. If you have never worked with fiberglass, it is easier to work with. You can buy colorants and try to tint the resin close.

What is causing it to fail? Is the shape sitting on some metal reinforcement or something that is popping up through it? You may need a couple layers of fiberglass or some kevlar or the patch will just crack on you.

As Joe suggests, a marine catalog or boatyard are worth visits. An autobody shop might sell you a little piece of cloth so you don't have to buy a bunch.

Thanks for the replies. Found a repair kit at HD for tubs/surrounds. $16.00 and mix and apply. Sand smooth and polish. Color very good match.

What? I don't see nothin, nice lookin job,ez. but like sdsesterand joe, I wonder what caused it and when its gonna cause it again. Could you see anything thru the hole? Instead of some support poking at it it could be a lack of support, weight could be stressing along there causing a small crack that grows. don't let the entire rugby team shower at the same time.
