If you can tolerate the mess, and your local dirt allows it (sand, sandy loam, light clay), you can dig a hole on one side deep enough to get below the compacted base, and out far enough to insert a 16' piece of PCV.

Attach a hose , crank it up and hydro drill it.

Trying to hijack here:laughing:

How far into the PVC pipe does one keep the hose when you are "drilling"? Also, does one just keep constant pressure on the end of the PVC to move it?

if the pipe is 1" what i did, I took an old tire tube and clamped it to the end of the pipe and the other end to the garden hose keeping the hose close to the pipe. then kept sliding the pipe back and forth to help remove the soil from the pipe. its very easy to do just keep the pipe fairly level or you will be drilling deeper then expected. Sorry for being slow.. but could you show a diagram? I am not understanding a few things and a diagram would be great. I am trying to understand:

1. Purpose of tire tube?
2. Where is the material going when it breaks loose if the hose is clamped to the pipe? Do you keep pulling the pipe all the way out of the hole every couple of minutes?

let me walk you through the set up and use. take a bicycle tube and stretch it over the end of the PVC pipe and then install the other end over the hose end. take two hose clamps and clamp the tube to the pipe and the end of the hose. then wrap some duck tape over the middle section of the clamps. the as the other poster stated dig a trench where you want the run of the pipe to start. take the pipe with the water on pointing it at your entree point holding it while having the water blow the soil away.
then.
this process will only work in certain soils as the other poster stated.
if you come to a point where the pipe does not want to go any further then pull the pipe out let the hose wash out the area and start pushing the pipe back in. Hope this helps. BOB
