I have a 1950s era brick house that is in need of some minor tuck pointing on the the rear and side of the home around a few windows and the chimney.
I have a family friend who is going to do the work for me and has asked if I would like him to use masonry mortar or masonry-colored vulkem caulk.
His rationale for using the vulkem is that the cracks are caused by the house settlings and are likely to continue shifting as the house settles over time. With the vulkem the cracks would not re-occur as the caulk will flex with the surrounding bricks delaying the need to do the work again in a few years.
Is this a valid rationale? Anyone have recommendations/experiences with this that they can pass on?
