Too much stain!!!

We just built a deck and stained it. Unfortunately, we used entirely too much stain and now it looks awful. My husband used a rag and some mineral spirits on a section and it looks great, it's just so very time consuming and breathing in those fumes for a long period of time isn't good either. Does anyone have any better suggestions??? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Too much stain!!!

Hi bloomgirl96
Welcome to the site

Unfortunately, there is not a good cure for your problem
Stain is tricky, and there's no real fix for too much (blotchy) stain

If the mineral spirits is working, then go for it
But wear a VOC rated respirator

Other than that, you are talking a total strip (not easy on new stain) or flipping the boards (also not easy-and not a good idea if you placed them with the correct side up) and re-staining
