Is tipping customary?
Everyone loves a tip but is it typical to tip after a job well done? It's not like i hired the cheapest guy.

Totaly up to you.
Not customary but sometimes happens.
What I do is take the money given to me and give it to my guys and I keep nothing. They did the work and deserve to be rewarded for doing a great job.

You ask, "can I buy you and your guys a case of beer and a couple large pizzas?" on the last day.
My guys got rewarded with an x-mas bonus and a week's paid vacation if they have been with me a year or more (here in Missouri it's rare to find somebody that actually wants to work a whole year for you).
Any monetary tip I might get from a customer would just go back into the company.

ya its not really customary to tip but if they did an awesome job and you feel like they deserve a tip then by all means give them one. i'd give a little to each worker and a thank you card. even give them a gift certifitate to the hardware store or even a restaurant if you dont want to give them just cash. its definitley browny points to the contractor and they'd love to come back in the future and go that much farther for you.

Once again--tips are not expected--but are always welcomed and remembered---
I get chocolate and cookies a lot----someone gave me a piano once,too.

Is tipping customary?
I think I've seen 1 tip in the past 10 years - and we do about 200 +/- (small to large) projects a year.
I don't expect a tip and I don't look for one.
Funny, the tip was on an industrial project and we were working as a subcontractor. The guy we were working for tipped me for sweeping up real good. He thought I was a laborer and didn't realize I was an owner... = $100.00!

I was wondering the same thing. I often like to buy lunch for anyone who is working on my house. I think that it saves them money, makes it so they don't have to work about it, and that it's nice to have food.

we usually supply beverages, a bit of food.... I always presumed that a professional like that shouldn't be tipped with money directly. We don't tip our physicians, do we?

Usually will be offered coffee and snacks, sometimes a beer at the end of the day..
Is always a nice gesture, however I do not expect it whatsoever.

Thanks for the replies, nice point about not tipping doctors that was clever!
I think I'll spring for a couple pizzas and a 12 pack at the end of the job.
