Is there really any difference between TVs?

I am getting ready to buy a new TV as soon as I get all my questions settled, so here is the number 1 question on my mind.
Is there any reason to believe that the new LCD TVs (60 inch range) are actually really better from one brand to another?
The parts basically come from China, Philippines, Japan, etc, so what is the difference if one even exists?

Cars are all made from plastic and metal (GM and Mercedes).

Lincoln and Focus both come from Detroit (per say).

Depends on the Black Level, and PQ when it comes to sets. If going for a LCD, Samsung is the way to go, but for a 60", a Plasma would give brighter Picture, and not the washed out feeling that you get on some of the lower end LCD sets give you.
