Suggestions For Cleaning Outside Garbage Cans?

Any suggestions for cleaning outside garbage cans?
I heard you should sprinkle borax at the bottom of the cans to kill the bacteria/mold that causes the smell.

I was hoping that one day this issue would come up.
Please keep me updated.
I used to sprinkle Jean Nate in mine, but my wife told me to stop the crazy stuff.

I leave them outside w/covers off
Heavy rains usually do a good job
Usually we only use one, so we switch off

Tide powder soap, with plenty of hot water. Then make sure that the bags have no moisture in them. If they tend to collect water, put a couple of drain holes in the bottom to let the water drain off.

I give them a good hosing. next fill them with water and let them sit for a day or two with a goodly bit of dawn dish wash soap mixed in. Then empty and give them another good hosing.

I think this is the secret. I use whatever is handy to clean them, then let them thoroughly air dry before using them.
