Stud mounting on Aluminum studs

I ran into this recently while hanging small cabinets, shelves, etc. I suspect there are aluminum channel studs behind the walls as opposed to wood 2x4's. Is there a preferred method to screwing into these aluminum studs for maximum holding strength?

Stud mounting on Aluminum studs

when dealing with metal studs you should try to avoid smooth connections as they can slide out. also some p[eople prefer to use adhesives instead of a fastener.
