stucco

Does anyone know where i can find info on how to do stucco? I want to learn it for my own personal knowledge. I want to ad smooth stucco borders around my windows and maybe texture the smooth stucco that is currently on my house. Any web sites, books, or personal knowledge is greatly appreciated.

You can do a web search for EIFS Systems and see what comes up. Also, check local suppliers of Dryvit, one of the name brands to see if they offer classes. I've never done it myself, but I see it alot and it appears to be very labor intensive. I also know that if you live in a coastal environment, you have to do the solid applied, the genuine stucco. EIFS systems are the more prevelant type used though.

If you are considering using EIFS on a wood structure, make sure it is permitted in your locality. Some areas do not permit it on wood because of historic problems.

I am not aware of any limitations on the traditional three coat stucco.

EIFS is totally acceptable for concrete and masonry structures.

My house is a CBS structure. It already has smooth stucco on it now. I have seen some homes in the area that have been restuccoed and have had accents done in stucco around the windows. From what i have seen they paint a bonding agnt on the existing stucco and i am unsure of what happens from there. I am mainly interested in learning how to put the raised stucco borders around windows and then eventually applying the textured stucco down the road on the rest of the house.
