Stopwatch Trigger Help

Hey guys...

I'm doing a study for my university on hands-free cell phone use vs. hand-held use, while driving. I'm designing a traffic light that will light green and red. I'll be using a 3-way switch: red - off - green. When switched to red, I want a stopwatch to start. When the participant presses the brake pedal on our device, I want the stopwatch to stop. This will measure participant reaction times under different conditions (no phone, hand-held conversation, hands-free conversation).

I can create a light that works with a 3-way switch, but that's about the limit of my knowledge. Does anyone have any idea on what type of timer to integrate into this system, and how to go about start/stopping it with the switch/pedal?

Any suggestions on how to set this up would be great.

Thanks.

Stopwatch Trigger Help

You don't want to be using a stop watch.....you need a digital timer.

They make plenty of them....here is one example

Unless your looking for real cheap....then you might want to look into kits...a good example is the timing kit for pinewood derby cars...
