Stairway loose
Hi All,
I have a steel stairway that is attached to a hollow brick wall. In several locations, the bolts slip right out, and the stairway is not held against the wall (it now shakes). The holes in the metal of the stairs is 3/8, and the hole in the brick behind the metal strip is larger than that. I cannot pull the stairway away from the bricks more than 1/4 inch. What would be the best way to re-secure the stairway to the brick wall? TIA alan |

With out a photo it is hard to tell what you have.
But you may be able to put mortar into the holes where the bolts are loose to secure the bolts to the wall. |

Stairway loose
Here is a picture of stairs.
brick (hollow - so it can't be filled in with cement) is on the left. Two holes are where I removed two lag bolts (loose - can't tell what it went into) --alan |

Since your not looking for a structural attachment just a movement attachment I would use a toggle bolt. They come in different sizes. You need to get one that will fit through the hole in the steel. You will have to get a washer big enough to keep the head from going through the hole and you will have to take the wing part off and put the washer on then reinstall the wing and place through the hole. The wings will open up and allow you to tighten it up holding the stairs tight to the wall. Here is a link to what I'm talking about.
