soffits and fascia

Hello all, I just found this forum through googling a question. I have searched here but have come up empty....was hoping to get some advice.

I am installing aluminum soffits and aluminum fascia on a new raw backerboard. Is it advisable to prime and/or paint the wood fascia prior to installing the aluminum in order to protect the wood?

Thanks,
Mike

I've never done it or seen it done. Any moisture that gets past the aluminum will destroy the wood whether it's painted or not and no moisture should get in there to begin with. I've torn off plenty of aluminum fascia and the wood was unpainted and in great condition.
