smoke alarm was sealed off in finished basement

Hi all. I purchased a 6 year old home this past march, and lately my smoke alarms have been going off. After much troubleshooting I believe the culprit it the alarm in the basement, problem is that whoever finished the basement has sealed off the alarm . Basement has 3 rooms and I have narrowed down the room I believe it is in, but after cutting one hole already and not finding it I am hesitant to cut more.

Does anyone have any tips of advice on how I can find this little bugger?? Much thanks!

Are they all hard wired together ?
If so set them off & use a cup against the basement ceiling to find it

They are hardwired, and I tried using a cup but couldnt really pinpoint. Think I may try a Mechanic's Stethoscope and see if that might help.

Disconnect all but the unit furthist away. Set off this unit while someone is in the basement. You should be able to narrow down the location by the sound.

If you know a telephone repair man, borrow his tone generator and probe.
Shut off the breaker and hook the generator between ground and the detector feed wire.
Follow the signal with the probe.
Phone guys do this all the time.
