Sloping an indoor concrete slab

Hey there,

I am turning a screened on porch into a finnished room that connects my kitchen (double doors) to my porch. I am installing a slab (22' by 14'). The issue is the height of the cieling room after completion. If I take the slab out 100% level from the Kitchen the height of the room at the far end will be 6' 8". My thought is to slightly slope from the houes to the end of the new room (14' span) using a 2" drop to gain some height.

I will then add a knee wal on the outside and sliding glass doors to the sides- the room will be a southern keeping room (tv & kids stuff)

Any thoughts on how visable this will be to the next buyer of the house?

It depends on the individual. They're going to notice it's a low ceiling. I believe the code minimum is no more than 50% can be under 7 feet when the ceiling is sloped. If you're really concerned about resale, I'd tear off the roof to make the floor level and the ceiling higher and flat.

either way, your gonna have issues. I can't stand uneven floors. What ever you do, do it right.

the golf course is Rivermont in Alpharetta>

the only portion that will under 7' will be the at the windowl ine at the furthet point away from the house - other wise it comes off the house at about 10.5'


I totally agree about the uneven floors- but and inch over 14 ' should not be too bad- that will give me 7' ceilings when standing at the lowest point looking out

my concrete guy is using 3000 psi with a filler over gravel and a vapor barrior- sounds stable

I wouldn't slope that floor...Pour it level...You will not really note the low ceiling like you will the off level floor with your chairs, etc in the room later...I would use a good 28 MPA mix with fibermesh in it and make sure to cure the concrete after its finished...Tape and seal the 6 mil poly under it as well...
