Sliding Glass/French/Patio/Sliding French???????
Good Morning,
Remodeling an old mid to late 60's built home. Currently there is a sliding glass door leading from the living room to the yard made of old school aluminum. My wife (and I, I guess) are set on replacing them. (they work fine but are ugly) I thought there was only 2 types of doors Sliding Glass and French. But I found this was not true? Can you give me some advantages and disadvantages of these style doors? My wife keeps saying FRENCH, I am leaning towards sliding glass with the blinds and the clip in window panes. OF COURSE she will win if all things are equal. Much more important to her than I!?Thank You in Advance for all your input!!!! |

Well reading your post tells me you really only have one choice, I have to go with your wife on this one though, I prefer french doors as well, not only do the seal better, but I prefer the look.

Sliding Glass/French/Patio/Sliding French???????
Mark that was one of the concerns I had?! My brother had French doors (2 different ones) installed in his house, and said that he would NOT go with FD because neither one got a tight seal, there was always a draft?! The other issue with the FD was if I get them to swing in we lose space to put furniture, If they swing out I have to build another step down to the patio. I saw the french sliding doors, but they don't give you enough ventilation, I don't think anyway?

There is always option "C", use a standard door with either side lights, or a standard door with a full size window next to it.
