shower drain cover

Just had my bathroom remodeled - went from a tub/shower to walk in shower only.

I bought a different shower drain cover (it matched the tiles) but it's a little too large for the one that is there. My question can I glue this to the shower floor? If so what adhesive/glue should I use..

Must use same size as opening with plumbers putty

You should return it and get the correct size.

Could you tell us how the shower was built? Is the pan made of packed concrete or some other material?

More info needed--------

Aside from any of the other potential issues with using this wrong sized cover, gluing it down is not a good idea because you would have no access to the drain. There would be no way to snake a clog out of the drain or the like.

If there is enough solid material around the edge you could use the old cover as a template and shave the new one down to size. Redrill and coutersink new attachment holes and BANG! You got a custom fitted drain cover.
