Shopping Exterior Doors.

I was wondering if anyone had a good advice when it comes to looking for a competively priced exterior door seller. I looked at the typical Home Depot, Lowes but their doors seem pricey. Or I could be wrong and those are the going rate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

lots of options without going to a bigbox store and buying cheap crap and you'll save a bundle too.
you could go to habitat for humanity, check craigslist, call around to door/window/siding places and ask if they have any dinged doors in the back, etc.

If you don't like the prices at big box, then what Danger suggests might be for you. But don't skimp on exterior doors. They keep out the weather, and hopefully the bad guys as well. For quality, I prefer local lumberyards to big box. The products are better and the prices are not much higher than big box, often lower.

It would help if expressed some preferences in door construction and your budget. Relative terms like, "pricey" have less meaning then a dollar range.

Yes - I consider that "pricey." I've seen some built by what have to be artisans going for more, but that's worth it! We just need to heard the sheep away from big box and create more revenue for the lost arts...

$1200? Never saw it posted and even then that might not be pricey if you're looking for a door with sidelights. More info needed...

Well, I have double doors so the cost is a big issue. I was talking 1500+ each door. The original owners went cheap and butt ugly for the doors when the house was built in 78. They are absolutely atrocious and I've lived with them for too long. I just can't afford the high price mahagony type doors. However, I do want something that looks nice and nobody can break into.
