septic pump

I had water backing into my basement yesterday and opened my septic tank and found that my filter was dirty. Cleaned it and I'm all good now. However, before I opened the tank, I accidentally opened my pump chamber. The pump was running, which is fine, but I noticed some water spraying out of the pipe that leads from the pump to the septic tank. It was bigger than a pin hole, but not as big as a hose spraying. I wasn't sure if that's by design (some sort of pressure release) or what. I assume it's pvc, so thought it would be unusual for it leak like that (a hole just suddenly appearing). Anyone know if this is by design or if I shoukd be calling someone?

The few I have seen had a hole in the pipe.
It allows the water to drain off before the pump starts up.

I had a similar situation. Two chamber tank, the pumping chamber contains a biotube assembly (PVC components) pu,ping to an uphill leach field. The pump comes on and sprays a fine mist In the tank. When the pump is off the transfer tuber backflows and drips into the effluent chamber. The components were just barely threaded together. I just went to town tightening the line components by hand. I didn't want five gallons of effluent coming back just to be pumped again.
I later added a elapsed time timer and counter for how long it runs. Wish I installed these before to quantify the effect.
