Sealing a disused, leaky bulkhead
I live in MA and am attempting to make my unfinished basement usable. My home is a Cape built about 1950, and the previous owner put a deck over the original basement entrance. However, the basement is below grade and when it rains, water drips into the basement where the previous bulkhead door used to be (the new bulkhead and entrance are just fine). As far as I can tell, the old entrance is covered with some combination of wood and plastic sheets. I'll have to rip up some of the deck to get a good look at it.
My question is, how do I cover and/or seal this leaky old basement entrance? I'm thinking I may have to buy a bulkhead door that I'll never use just to seal up this hole.
