Sealing asphalt driveway? Product suggestions?

coat tar is more carcinogenic than asphalt cement but you're not sticking your head into either's oven, are you ? we made a good living sealing cracks & joints in conc roadways, runways, & aprons w/ss-s-1614 ( astm 3406 ) crack sealants,,, then again, i never had a dog die from 2nd hand smoke, either

IF you can find coat tar sealer, its MUCH better than asphalt cement mix'd w/some latex,,, MUCH better ! i'd even bet cat urine's often better than what we buy at the apron/vest stores !

conc driveways are more economical as they require less maintenance, have a longer service life, & are more ' green ' ( if that's important to you )

ps - there is no hot-applied driveway sealer to my knowledge nor did i see anyone showing it at this last pavement maintenance show in nashville

I'm not seeing much locally other than what HD has. Looks like that might be my only option. It's cheap enough that it won't matter if it doesn't do much. If anyone has a specific product they rec then I could search around. I figure I'll being doing this within 2 months depending on weather.

Sealing asphalt driveway? Product suggestions?

Lookin' for expertise, I'm in Catskill, NY with a 500ft rocky driveway. Contractor suggested laying down only binder asphalt to save me the bread. Not much much traffic for sure. Thing is, will it crack without the blacktop cover and sealer? I haven't seen it anywhere done like that, just the larger stone binder layer with nothing else. Any thoughts? Thanks.

i can comment now. i didn't get down on my hand&knees. but it looks like this stuff is wearing off in spots. oddly, not in the traffic areas. about 10 months old, on never sealed 3y/o drive.

Interesting. I guess my answer is "just leave it alone." I'll give it a good washing and leave it be.

Fixn.... I too have heard that commerrcialis far superior, but only in tank load, maybe in 55 gal drums...

I've been fighting my driveway for years with moderate success with big-box crap... I really don't have a recommendation

Please let us know what you discover... I'd be very interested.

TIA

Peter

yeah, i have "heard' also. but i do see parking lots in the area, and they look good a while.

i recommend "at least" price out the pro stuff.

i am not planning to do mine again for at least a year.
