Schlage F-series handset

Installed this lock set on back garage door. Keyed on the outside turn button on the inside. When the door is locked you can open it from the inside without unlocking it, if youwalk outside and the door closes behind you your locked out. All my other doors have to be unlocked before the door opens. Is this something new or did I buy the wrong lock set.

This is the way Schlage makes their locks. Kwikset sets the locks up the other way where the interior knob doesn't turn if the exterior is in the lock mode.
It isn't wrong, one way or the other. It's just a matter of which system are you happy with?

Thanks for the info Ron. Never ran across that before, guess I always used Kwikset.
