Saniflo

Plumbing advice please.I have just been charged 907 to a company that repairs and replaces maceraters (sometimes known as saniflows)as the motor on the appliance seemed to be stuck and wasn't turning off. I was advised to have it replaced because it was in a state and would need lots of work to refurbish. When the new appliance was installed I found my shower wasn't draining. The Engineer said it was probably a blocked pipe and poured descaler down it. I need to leave it for 2 hours.
Could the problem have been merely a blocked pipe in the first place?

There's always that possibility, that's why you try to find a plumber who's worked for a friend or relative.
